Spokeo is a fairly new website but it’s already got many people upset and worried about their privacy because the site has personal information you may not have even known was publicly listed. All anyone has to do is enter your name on the website and it pulls up a list of personal information from addresses, to interests and even credit scores. Unlike Google or the white pages, Spokeo can piece together scattered data from online and offline sources, showing revealing information about just about anyone.
There is a way to protect yourself from having your information shown on Spokeo. All you have to do is log on to their website and follow these steps to remove yourself from the database.
1. Go to the Spokeo.com website by clicking on the related link.
2. Run a search on your name. You can narrow the search down by adding city and state.
3. If the search returns your name and address in the results, click your name to go to the information page listed on you.
4. Now copy the URL at the top of the page with your information. The URL is the long web address in the web browser address bar that begins with http://www.spokeo.com/search...
5. Now open the website by clicking the featured link “Remove from Spokeo”
6. Paste the URL web address you copied from your information page space marked URL:
7. Enter a valid email address. The email must be working because you will receive a message from Spokeo with a link to click to complete the process. You can set up a free email account just for this purpose on sites like Yahoo, Hotmail or others.
8. Now enter the code shown on the screen and click the “Remove Listing” button.
9. To finish the process, open your email and locate the message sent by Spokeo and click the link they provided.
10. Search Spokeo.com for your name again to make sure your name has been removed.
