Phoenix International Raceway: NASCAR Arrives In Phoenix For 2011 Season's Second Act

NASCAR Arrives In Phoenix For 2011 Season's Second Act

Race winner Kyle Busch halted his car on the start/finish series, climbed out as well as looked ready to complete his traditional post-victory bow. But instead, this individual pointed to pit road.

There, runner-up Carl Edwards interrupted an interview to wave back. And also really, that was all Edwards can do.

Busch had become the first driver given that 2003 to guide a Nationwide race from wire-to-wire, pacing all 200 laps in Saturday afternoon's Bashas' Supermarkets two hundred at Phoenix Worldwide Raceway.

In doing so, Busch made this 2-for-2 at Phoenix so far a few days ago, setting the stage for perhaps an additional weekend sweep – that only he has achieved in Dale earnhardt jr . history.

The success was Busch's 88th win across all three collection, which leaves your pet in fourth put on the all-moment list. And he is still only two-and-a-half decades old.

Busch dominated the entire occasion – as evidenced through leading every clapboard – but Edwards gave him an extraordinary challenge with concerning 20 laps to look.

Busch's No. 20 car had started to get loose within Turns 3 and 4, which authorized Edwards to gain. Several times, Edwards was also inside Busch as well as looked ready to produce a pass – but this individual couldn't quite total the move.

Eventually, after about any half-dozen runs around of intense fight, Edwards fell again and Busch went on to victory.

Given that Edwards and Busch have acquired their on-track differences before, why didn't Edwards use his bumper on the actual 18 car?

"You've got to do the finest you can to visit out and contest everyone with the most respect you can easily," Edwards said. "Today, Kyle's car was the best, and it's really fun to manage to race like which.

"It's frustrating to reduce them, but it's better to shed them that way than it is always to win by working into somebody."

Edwards also pointed out "this is a new year," which Busch said had been likely a key reason Edwards failed to do anything.

"It's early in the year, that's why," Busch said. "Whether or not this was the fall Phoenix race, I'd be backed inside (the fence) at this time. ... You never understand with him. He can surprise you occasionally."

Kevin Harvick has been third, Ryan Newman was fourth and Reed Sorenson was 6th. Danica Patrick done 17th, three runs around down.

Sorenson is the points leader, by five points over Ricky Stenhouse Junior.
