The New York Yankees have no plans to look into Albert Pujols' availability, a baseball official with knowledge of the team's thinking said.

The Cardinals and Pujols failed to agree to a new contract by Wednesday's imposed deadline. The Yankees are always rumored to be in the mix for big-name players, but the official said the Yankees have no place to put Pujols.

Albert Pujols contract negotiations deadline passes without deal

The deadline for the St. Louis Cardinals to work out a contract extension with Albert Pujols has passed.

With no word on the contract, it means the Cardinals risk losing the standout slugger and first basemen after the season, when he would become a free agent.

Mozeliak confirmed that the team did make a substantial, long-term offer. "We have agreed to keep all details confidential out of respect for the process," Mozeliak said.
